師父授其道,成道在弟子

사부수기도 성도재제자

English Translation:
"A master imparts the Way, but it is up to the disciple to fulfill it."

Meaning:
The master teaches and reveals the path (道),
but whether that path is truly realized depends on the disciple’s dedication and practice.

The dobok is my instinct,
and the belt is my enlightenment.

道服者我之本能也, 帶者我之覺悟也

Instinct

Is a living attitude — one’s core and mindset etched into body and action through training, responding naturally without conscious thought.

What is Enlightenment?

It is the awareness gained through confronting oneself amid repetition and establishing inner balance amid challenges.
The belt is not merely a rank, but a symbol of the time, attitude, responsibility, and perseverance one has passed through in training.

🥋 The Way of the Master (師道) Is Character, Not Just Technique

  • 技術 (Skill): That which is refined through training — an ability revealed in outward form
    人格 (Character): One’s attitude toward life and inner center — the foundation that shapes the direction of teaching

  • Skill is honed through training;
    Character is revealed through how one lives and stands.

  • Skill is a weapon;
    Character is the hand that holds it.

  • Skill is what is shown;
    Character is what is seen.
    👉 One is the result of practice, the other, the trace of a life lived.

  • If skill reflects a leader’s ability,
    Character defines a leader’s dignity.

  • Skill can be taught as movement;
    Character is transmitted as presence.

  • 📌 Therefore,
    Taekwondo education within the dojang must be this:

  • Train the skills through disciplined practice,
    but build character first.
    Only then can true skill be completed—on the foundation of character.
